Intern

TITLE: Intern (Both D.C. and District)

REPORTS TO: Intern Coordinator/Supervisor

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the office staff with projects, research, and other tasks that allow interns to learn about the legislative process, federal agencies, communications work and constituent and outreach services

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Good academic standing

  • Undergraduate or graduate students, plus recent graduates

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others

  • Responsible, dependable, organized and willing to learn

 

WASHINGTON, D.C. DUTIES:

  • Conduct research (CRS, the Library of Congress, MIN, or other available resources)

  • Sort and distribute mail

  • Attend committee meetings, intern conferences, and seminars

  • Perform data entry, which involves logging letters and constituent requests

  • Answer the telephones

  • Note constituent opinions

  • Greet visitors and sign for deliveries

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Intern Supervisor and staff

 

DISTRICT DUTIES:

  • Enter voicemails from constituents into a database and log any opinions into IQ

  • Answer phones and transfer calls to the appropriate staff when necessary

  • Assist with communications work

  • Contribute to grant research

  • Attend any briefings or virtual events and submit memos to staff

  • Facilitate casework inquiries

  • Collaborate on projects given by staff

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Intern Supervisor
