Congressional Internship

The Washington D.C. Office of Congressman Kurt Schrader (OR-05) is accepting applications for its Spring 2022 internship program. This is a paid position.

Interns with Congressman Schrader's office gain valuable experience and a first-hand understanding of how our legislative process works. Interns assist with answering phones, data entry, and general office systems operations, and are an integral part of our Congressional staff.

Internships are available expressly for the purpose of furthering educational objectives, therefore they are usually awarded to college students and recent graduates. Priority is given to applicants from Oregon's current 5th district, although all interested persons are encouraged to apply.

Interns will:

  • Answer phones

  • Draft constituent correspondence

  • Attend hearings and congressional briefings

  • Prepare memoranda

  • Conduct research on a variety of issues for the Congressman

  • Compile press clips

  • Draft releases and social media postings

Successful candidates will possess:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines

  • Established interest in politics and policymaking

  • Desire to learn about congressional affairs
