Communications Director

California Democratic Member of Congress seeks experienced, hardworking team player with outstanding writing skills and sound political judgment to serve as Communications Director in his Washington DC office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, drafting speeches, talking points, press releases, floor statements, op ed’s, and other written materials; responding to press inquiries; managing and updating official website and social media accounts; creating and distributing e-newsletters and franked mailings; planning press conferences and in-district events; and developing and implementing media, communications, and public relations strategies. This is not an entry level position.

Candidates must be flexible, highly dependable, and organized, as well as possess a working knowledge of issues facing Congress, strong oral and written communication skills, a proven ability to write quickly and crisply and a talent for creatively researching and succinctly describing complex issues.

The ideal candidate would have California ties, at least 2 years of on-the-record professional communications experience (campaign or Hill), significant speech writing experience, working knowledge of issues facing California, and a strategic understanding of gun violence prevention issues and policies within the jurisdiction of the House Ways and Means Committee.
