Communications Director
The Office of Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) seeks an experienced, creative, and proactive communications director. The position is based in Washington, DC, and will on occasion require travel to Miami Gardens, the heart of her district.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the member and senior staff to craft and implement a communications strategy across traditional and digital media

  • Serve as the member’s primary spokesperson, promoting her positions and priorities

  • Cultivate relationships with key reporters, editors, news directors, assignment editors, bookers, and other media stakeholders

  • Pitch the member to local and national news outlets 

  • Oversee the development and implementation of digital strategies to expand the member’s following on social media and to grow her email list

  • Coordinate with the legislative team and others to brief the member for interviews

  • Ensure that the member and staff are kept apprised of national and local news with implications for the district

  • Draft speeches, talking points, floor statements, press releases, op-eds, newsletters, interview memos and other communication materials

  • Plan and staff press conferences, virtual events, and in-district events

  • Manage the communications team, which includes a press secretary/digital director, district staff, and press interns

This is a senior-level position. The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience as a press secretary, communications director, or similar communications role. They will also have established relationships with key media stakeholders. Strong writing and oral skills are required. Florida ties and fluency in Spanish or Kreyòl are pluses. 

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. In accordance with applicable law, COVID-19 vaccination is required.
