Legislative Assistant

The Office of Congresswoman Axne is seeking a Legislative Assistant to handle the Health Care portfolio along with other assigned issue areas for the Congresswoman.

The Legislative Assistant (LA) will be responsible for developing legislative initiatives in their portfolio, meeting with constituents and interested groups on behalf of the office, and monitoring events and legislation within their issue areas. The LA will be responsible for briefing the Congresswoman in their assigned areas, creating talking points and prepared remarks, completing briefing materials, and staffing the Congresswoman during meetings.

An ideal candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of the House legislative process, be organized and self-motivated, and should have a strong writing and grammar background. Candidates should enjoy and thrive in fast-paced collaborative working environments.

This is not an entry-level position. Previous Hill and legislative experience is required. Iowa and Midwest ties and higher education is a plus, but not required. Diverse candidates, women, and LGBTQ persons are strongly encouraged to apply.
