San Diego Member of Congress seeks to add a new member to his dynamic communications team in his Washington D.C. office.
Excellent writing and organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate with legislative and district staff to maximize visibility and press opportunities. The ideal candidate takes initiative, is creative, detail-oriented, able to meet tight deadlines, has sound political judgment and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates must be precise writers with exceptional knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Generating earned media coverage in national news outlets, preparing the congressman for and facilitating media appearances, cultivating relationships with reporters, drafting speeches, writing press statements, op-eds, and congressional record statements, working with legislative staff to create compelling fact sheets and announcements for bill introductions, coordinating with the Member’s caucus and committee staff, maintaining office website, gathering content and creating regular e-newsletters, creating excellent social media content and growing social media presence, and organizing daily news clips.
This is not an entry level position. Political or government press/communications experience required. Diverse candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Those with San Diego ties are preferred.
Title and salary are commensurate with experience. Salary range: $52,000 to $74,000.
