Press Assistant

Rep. Dean Phillips is seeking a talented and experienced writer to join his team in Washington, D.C. Ideal applicants will have one-to-two years’ experience in writing, journalism, marketing or a related field.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to multitask while thriving in a fast-paced setting under tight deadlines.

  • Thrive in a collaborative environment alongside the Senior Advisor for Strategic Communications, the Communications Director, and members of the policy team.

  • Hold a passion for learning more about the complicated issues our country faces and, with support from the policy team, concisely communicating solutions to these problems to a lay audience.

  • Embrace an understanding of the history and culture of the diverse constituencies in Minnesota.

 Essential written products will include:

  • Press Releases

  • Advisories

  • Prep materials

  • Digital copy 

  • Speeches

  • Letters to constituents

  • Op-Eds

Other varying responsibilities will include:

  • Research

  • Assisting with press events and related tactics

  • Supporting the Staff Assistant and Hospitality Director, especially during frenetic session weeks.

  • Project management

  • Ad hoc administrative and support duties

EDUCATION:

A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a closely related field. Political experience and Minnesota ties are both a plus, but not a requirement.
