Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) seeks energetic candidates for the position of Digital Manager/Press Secretary. The ideal candidate will have a passion for progressive policies, social justice, and digital organizing. Applicants should be able to communicate effectively about a variety of policy issues and have a proven history of writing creative and original copy. Candidates should be organized, creative, motivated and must have the ability to write content that accurately conveys the Congressman’s priorities and tone. Candidates must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team. Knowledge of Chicago strongly preferred. Video editing proficiency, strongly preferred. This position reports to the Communications Director.


  • This is NOT an entry level position. Minimum two years of successful work on digital media for an elected leader or comparable experience

  • Excellent understanding of online organizing communications

  • Video editing proficiency, strongly preferred

  • Skills and experience producing excellent written and visual content, including graphics and video, for a variety of social media platforms. 

  • Critical and strategic thinking

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into simple language

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Flexibility to work long hours, nights, and weekends as needed

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Managing website and social media accounts;

  • Creating e-newsletters and franked mailings; 

  • Writing talking points

  • Drafting press releases

  • Creating graphics and media presentation

  • Creating and editing video content

  • Tracking press and social media analytics 

  • Ability to produce content in English and Spanish preferred though not required

  • Assisting in the development of local and national media strategy
