Rep. Val Demings seeks a full-time Press Assistant in Washington, D.C.
Qualified candidates should be able to hit the ground running to help manage communications in a fast-paced congressional office. Responsibilities include responding to media inquiries; building relationships with national, state and local reporters; pitching stories and interviews; writing press releases, statements, and media advisories; assisting with social media content, including graphics and videos; and drafting speeches, talking points, and op-eds. The Press Assistant will also be responsible for managing press interns.
This is not an entry-level position. Candidates should have at least two years of relevant communications experience and must have an understanding of print, broadcast, and online media, strong written and verbal communication skills, a self-starting personality, and an eagerness to put forward ideas in a collaborative office environment. Qualified candidates should also have a strong understanding of the legislative process and congressional issues. Hill experience preferred but not required. Florida ties preferred.
