Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) seeks a Press Secretary to support her active communications team out of the Washington, D.C. office.
Working with the Communications Director, the Press Secretary will develop, coordinate, and implement media and communications strategies that highlight the Member’s work and advance her robust online presence. Other primary responsibilities include fielding press requests from local and national media; drafting social media content; creating graphic and video content; maintaining the Member’s website; producing the Member’s newsletters; and drafting press releases, speeches, and talking points.
Successful candidates will have excellent oral and written communications skills, a creative and strategic approach to visual and graphic design, an ability to handle multiple assignments on tight deadlines, a desire to hone the member’s voice, a strong collaborative approach to cross functional teaming, and a good sense of humor. Ohio ties are a plus, but not required, and proven effective digital experience is required.
This is not an entry-level position. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of previous experience with communications, with an emphasis on professional digital media and general communications proficiency beyond the intern level.
