Legislative Assistant

Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett (VI) seeks a Legislative Assistant to cover various issue areas in a fast-paced and team-oriented operation, including transportation & infrastructure, energy, telecom, judiciary (other than immigration), housing, small business, science & technology, and Budget Committee portfolio.  The position is in her Washington, DC office.  Candidates should possess knowledge of the legislative process and congressional operations.  Legislative experience is required, and at least 2-3 years of Hill experience is strongly preferred.  This position requires excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.  Applicants should possess superior writing skills and attention to detail, and be able to manage and prioritize a variety of assignments at one time.  Responsibilities include: formulating, evaluating, and executing legislative initiatives; tracking legislation and congressional activity; drafting remarks and talking points, and other written communications; communicating and coordinating with other congressional offices and caucuses within the House and Senate; preparing and staffing the Congresswoman for hearings, markups, meetings, and events; representing the office with constituents, interest groups, and other stakeholders; and performing other tasks as assigned.
