Legislative Assistant

The office of Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, is seeking a legislative assistant who will be responsible for handling a diverse portfolio with an emphasis on national security policy. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, drafting and advancing legislation, drafting vote recommendations and talking points, staffing the Member in relevant meetings, committee hearings, and markups, representing the office before constituents and stakeholders, and traveling to the district as needed.

The ideal candidate should have relevant experience, excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and stay organized in a fast-paced environment, and a sense of humor. This is not an entry-level position. Advanced degrees, experience working on the Hill and/or on defense and national security policy, and Virginia ties are a plus.
