Communications Director

Rep. Derek Kilmer (WA-06) is seeking an experienced communications professional to serve as Communications Director for his fast-paced and highly engaged office. This position will serve as the spokesperson and primary communications advisor to the Member and will be responsible for developing and executing an aggressive strategic communications plan including local, regional, and national press for the Congressman’s initiatives. The Communications Director will produce a large volume of written speeches, op-eds, press releases, social media posts, talking points and an e-newsletter. The person who fills this role will have excellent writing and editing skills, a demonstrated ability to make complex topics relevant to a wide audience, have experience in digital communications, have familiarity with basic content management for website updates, be comfortable interacting with reporters and building press lists for targeted pitches, and have a good sense of humor. This is not an entry-level position. Expected starting salary range is $65,000 to $85,000, based on previous experience.
