Active member of the House Judiciary Committee seeks Legislative Assistant to handle Judiciary portfolio in Member’s personal office. The LA will handle an issue portfolio focused on committee and committee-related work including a focus on criminal justice and civil rights issues. Responsibilities include coordinating with committee staff, preparing materials for hearings, drafting legislation and amendments, writing talking points and memoranda, and interacting with key constituent groups and stakeholders.
Applicants should have strong organizational, writing, and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to learn quickly and take initiative. Candidates should also be detail oriented and able to work proficiently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment. A JD is preferred, but not required. Louisiana ties are a plus.
