The Office of Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-31) is seeking candidates for the Legislative Director position in our office. The LD is responsible for managing and supervising the legislative team; developing and executing the legislative plan; ensuring legislative goals and projects are completed and deadlines are met; working closely with the Legislative Correspondent on the mail program; and working closely with other department heads to advance the office’s goals. The successful candidate will be a capable supervisor and mentor, extremely organized, an excellent writer and editor, a proactive self-starter, dependable and someone who is able to fit in with our close-knit team. The position requires non-traditional work hours and close communication when the House or Committee is in session.

The LD will also staff the Congressman on the Appropriations Committee, handle a legislative portfolio including immigration, Homeland Security, transportation, housing and other issues as assigned and serve as the liaison to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC).

The ideal candidate will have ties to California’s Inland Empire, Spanish language skills, and at least five years of Congressional experience, with bonus points for direct Appropriations Committee experience. The salary range for the position is $80,000 to $95,000 a year, depending on experience. Our office offers student loan repayment, transit benefits and compensation time in addition to paid vacation and sick leave.
