Press Secretary

Press Secretary

Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) seeks an experienced, detail-oriented, collaborative, creative and highly motivated Press Secretary to lead communications, media, and outreach efforts. This is a temporary position that will end November 30th, 2020. The position may be remote for the duration of the term.

Responsibilities include managing Rep. Sherrill’s social media platforms and website; graphic design; drafting releases, newsletters and advisories; daily press clips; and organizing press events. Excellent writing and strong organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to be a self-starter with strong organizational and multitasking skills. Qualified candidates will possess strong written and oral communications skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting under tight deadlines. Relationships with local and national reporters, editors, producers, bookers and social media influencers are an additional advantage.

Capitol Hill experience is a plus, but not a requirement. Knowledge of the legislative process is imperative, and experience with Capitol Hill reporting is ideal.

The office is an equal opportunity employer. Women, people of color, and LGBTQ candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. New Jersey ties are a plus.

Qualified candidates should send their applications (resume, cover letter, references, and writing samples) to resumes.nj11@mail.house.gov with “Press Secretary” in the subject line by August 12th, 2020.  No phone calls, faxes, emails, or walk-ins, please.
