Legislative Assistant

Legislative Assistant

Congressman Paul Tonko (NY-20) seeks a highly motivated Legislative Assistant for his Washington, D.C. office. The issue portfolio for the position is flexible depending on the candidate, but a desire to help advance the Congressman’s climate priorities across various committees, including Transportation and Infrastructure, Agriculture, and Natural Resources, while managing other priorities, would be ideal. Specific experience working on climate, environment or energy related policy is also a plus.   Excellent writing, verbal and organizational skills are essential along with the ability to be a policy entrepreneur while working in a fast-paced environment.  Job responsibilities will include meeting with constituents, conducting research, drafting legislation, writing policy memos and talking points, working with outside stakeholders, and preparing hearing materials.  A sense of humor is greatly appreciated.   This is not an entry-level position. Previous Hill or other relevant experience is required.  This office is an equal opportunity employer; we do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, age, religion, disability, national origin, uniformed status, sexual orientation or gender identity or expression. In addition, we are committed to, and benefit from, a diverse staff and candidates of all backgrounds. Application materials must be received by November 27, 2020. Interested parties should e-mail a resume, cover letter and short writing sample to ny20resumes@mail.house.gov [ny20resumes@mail.house.gov] with the subject line Clean Future.
