Legislative Assistant

Congressman Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) seeks experienced legislative staffer who will be primarily responsible for immigration policy as well as the Congressman’s Ways and Means Committee work on healthcare, and social security.  Success in this position will hinge on applicant’s ability to craft, negotiate, and monitor sound immigration policies that benefit the Central Coast of California.  Other policy issues may include transportation, housing, labor, LGBTQ, voting rights, government oversight, and the postal service.  Responsibilities of this position include crafting and analyzing legislation, conducting research, drafting policy memos, meeting with constituents, and staffing Member on relevant work on House Committee on Ways and Means.  Applicants should have: strong organizational and time management skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; solid knowledge of immigration and healthcare policy; prior Hill policy experience; an ability to work well in a team-oriented environment; and an ability to set and meet deadlines.  Salary commensurate with experience.  No phone calls please.  This is not an entry level position and will require three years of prior policy experience.  Qualified applicants should send a cover letter, resume, and two writing samples to CA20Jobs@mail.house.gov [CA20Jobs@mail.house.gov] with the subject line “Legislative Assistant Application.”  Candidates with California ties are strongly encouraged to apply.  The office is an equal opportunity employer.
