Legislative Assistant

Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) seeks an experienced, proactive, and motivated Legislative Assistant to join his DC team. Legislative portfolio will be focused on health care, education, housing, financial services, telecommunications, seniors, and women’s issues – among others to be determined by the Legislative Director. This is not an entry-level position. Qualified candidates should possess a strong understanding of the legislative process, health care and education policy, coalition building, and strategic relationship management. The position requires the ability to advance the Congressman’s legislative priorities in creative ways and keen attention to the district.   Candidates must be extremely team-oriented, self-starters, able to set and meet deadlines, value collaboration with the district office, and share a passion for constituent services. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills are essential. Responsibilities include generating new ideas, developing legislation, conducting research, drafting policy memos, and cultivating relationships with organizations, constituents, and other stakeholders.   California ties are strongly preferred. Prior Hill experience is required.
