Rep. Karen Bass (CA-37) seeks a hardworking lawyer with significant legal and management experience to manage the legislative, policy, and constituent correspondence operations of the Washington, DC office.
The Legislative Director and Chief Counsel is primarily responsible for directing the Member’s legislation priorities. This position also supervises the Member’s Judiciary Committee work. This senior staff position reports to the Chief of Staff and works closely with the Communications Director and the District Director.
This is not an entry-level position and previous legislative director experience is required. Candidates must have a track record of turning ideas into legislation and legislation into law, being a team player, and having good relationships on the Hill with Democrats and Republicans. All candidates should be excellent writers and even better editors. Strong candidates will have a thorough understanding of the legislative process, experience managing a team, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
