Scalise Statement on the Death of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe

Today, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released the following statement after learning that Shinzo Abe, Japan's former prime minister, died when he was shot while campaigning for a parliamentary election:   “As someone who has also experienced the pure evil of politically motivated violence, I am shocked and deeply saddened by the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Prime Minister Abe was a great leader who dedicated his life to the service of the Japanese people. As the longest-serving prime minister of Japan, Abe fought to reinvigorate his nation's economy, rebuild the Japanese military, and strengthen Japan's presence on the world stage. America stands with one of our greatest allies in this moment of pain and mourning. I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to Abe's family and the proud people of Japan.”
