Scalise: Biden is Responsible For Higher Gas Prices

House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street last night to discuss President Biden’s decision to release millions of barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) in an attempt to counter his administration’s self-created energy crisis. Whip Scalise urged President Biden to reverse his extreme climate agenda and ramp up U.S. energy production to lower the cost of gasoline.Additionally, Whip Scalise highlighted Republicans on the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis’ report revealing that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) initially planned to issue guidance that would have been more favorable towards opening schools but reversed course after consulting with teachers union bosses. Whip Scalise slammed the Biden Administration for giving favorable treatment and access to teachers unions over parents.

On President Biden once again tapping into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve:“I mean, here we go again where the President’s raiding our nation’s security blanket for disasters and using it to just try to bail out his failed policies. And as you point out, it’s no surprise that prices keep going up because it’s President Biden, not Vladimir Putin, who has shut down production in America. Who has not approved a new permit for any kind of pipeline – not just Keystone – any kind of oil and gas pipeline in America. No new leases for exporting LNG to our friends around the world.“So, when President Biden shuts down production in America, throws up more roadblocks – [the] SEC, every federal agency, [the] Endangered Species Act, quotas – making it impossible to develop your lease, and then he says after he stops these companies from developing their lease, he’s going to fine them if they’re not developing their lease. And do you wonder why prices keep going up?“And then he proposed in his budget, just the other day, $45 billion in new taxes on oil and gas! And who’s that going to hit? Low-income families with higher gas prices. This is lunacy. People get it. They’re furious. They know it’s not Putin doing this. They know it’s Joe Biden, and he keeps doubling down.”On the Biden Security and Exchange Commission’s new climate rules on publicly-traded companies:“Not only will they lose credibility, this is going to add billions of dollars of cost to families. Does [President Biden] not realize that inflation is probably the biggest problem in the country? It’s crushing middle and lower-income class families, and he’s adding to it with all of these radical rules. Look, he tried to pass the Green New Deal through a Democrat [controlled] House and Senate and couldn’t even get the votes because even as radical as Speaker Pelosi is with [Representative Ocasio-Cortez], they couldn’t get the votes to pass the Green New Deal.“Now they’re trying to get these federal agencies to impose it backdoor through regulations which will add billions of dollars of increased cost to families on everything you buy. Not just gasoline, [but] food at the grocery store. Do they not think it’s expensive enough? They’re not living in the real world, Maria, but I’ll tell you, they’re going to get a rude awakening in November because voters are furious. They know who’s doing it. It’s Joe Biden. And we’re going to have a change in direction.”On Select Subcommittee Republicans’ interim report revealing that the CDC bypassed scientific norms to allow teachers union bosses to re-write official guidance: “Well, one of the things we found is that not only is it not unprecedented, it almost never happens. One of the CDC witnesses that we interviewed actually said when we were interviewing him, that is it almost never happens. And even if it does, maybe they might give you a heads up a few hours before the report [comes] out. We found that the CDC gave the union bosses – about 12 days in advance of it going public – a copy of what the guidance was going to be for opening up schools.“But we found emails – we actually uncovered emails – between CDC Director Walensky and the head of the teachers union, and the union said, ‘Woah, wait a minute, this isn’t good enough. It doesn’t give us enough power to shut down schools. And by the way, here are some suggested changes.’ Do you know that the CDC almost took it word from word from the teacher union, made the changes, modified the science, and then made it easier to shut down schools? And CDC put that in their final guidance.“I asked the CDC Director, has any parent group been given that access, let alone the ability to change the medical guidance? She hasn’t given me a name yet. But yet, they let the union bosses change the science to keep schools shut down. This is a major scandal.“Again, parents are furious because their kids, millions of kids, were denied the opportunity to have in-school learning when all the scientists were saying, ‘You’re damaging kids by keeping them out of school. They’re not learning. Suicides are through the roof because you’re keeping them out of school.’ But they did this to bow down to the union bosses and not side with the kids, but side with their big supporters and the unions.”
