The Republican Recap: Week of July 10, 2023
Washington,
July 14, 2023
Here’s a recap of what Republicans achieved on the House Floor this week:
Providing Responsibly for Our National Defense ✅ Under the Biden Administration, the Department of Defense has been spending Americans' hard-earned money on diversity, equity, and inclusion training, wasteful green initiatives, and redundant bureaucracy from the Pentagon instead of lethality. Hardworking Americans deserve to know that every taxpayer dollar invested in the Department of Defense is being spent efficiently to keep them safe, deter adversaries like China, and maintain our technological advantage – not wasted on woke programs that do nothing to enhance our military capabilities or weapons that don't meet the best standards. H.R. 2670, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024, introduced by Chairman Mike Rogers, counters the Chinese Communist Party’s aggression, boosts oversight of the Biden Administration’s Department of Defense, supports members of our military and their families, and saves taxpayers billions of dollars while still investing in a secure defense industrial base and innovative technologies to support our national defense. “The National Defense Authorization Act has been a critical part of our national security for over 60 years. The NDAA provides our warfighters with the resources and authorities they need to provide for the defense of our nation. This legislation is vital as our nation is faced with unprecedented threats from our adversaries. It is only because of the selflessness of the brave men and women who serve in our armed forces that our nation remains free – the FY24 NDAA includes strong provisions that support our servicemembers and their families. The threat we face from China is the most pressing national security threat we’ve faced in decades – the FY24 NDAA is laser-focused on countering China. The FY24 NDAA protects our homeland from threats by investing in a stronger missile defense and modernizing our nuclear deterrent. The legislation also boosts innovation and revitalizes the industrial base to ensure they can deliver the systems we need to prevail in any conflict," said Chairman Mike Rogers. “The FY24 NDAA also recognizes the critical role Alabama plays in our national defense and strengthens that role for years to come. Our adversaries will only be deterred by strength. The FY24 NDAA sends a stern message to our adversaries by bolstering our nation’s defense.” What Members Said: “The NDAA protects us at home by building up our cybersecurity capabilities, and developing new emerging technologies and AI to help our soldiers defend against threats against our nation. And also, with the largest pay raise in over 20 years of 5.2 percent – barely keeping pace with inflation – to help our enlisted and lower paid service members. Supporting the NDAA is essential in making sure our soldiers and interests abroad are supported and defended to the highest standard, while also making sure that all of us at home in the United States are protected from threats, as well,” said Rep. Marianette Miller-Meeks. Click here or on the image above to view Rep. Miller-Meeks' remarks.
“As Americans, we're blessed to live in the greatest nation the world has ever known. And that's in large part because of our men and women who wear our nation's uniform. As the stepson of a Navy man, the brother of a Marine, the grandson of a coast guardsmen and a Navy veteran, myself, and a member of the Armed Services Committee, I'm incredibly proud that we came together to pass the NDAA today,” said Rep. Nick LaLota. “This is a good bill. It's a great bill, in fact, that increases pay – soldier pay; improves housing, education, child care funding; takes on China; cuts back wasteful spending; and ensures our military is the most lethal fighting force the world has ever known.” Click here or on the image above to view Rep. LaLota's remarks.
Majority Leader Steve Scalise highlighted how the NDAA supports our men and women in uniform and refocuses our military on our enemies. Rep. Scott Fitzgerald noted how H.R. 2670 counters CCP aggression and ends woke ideology in the military.
