Committee Cliff Notes: Weekly Preview – Week of September 18, 2023

Here’s what to watch for from House Republican committees during the week:

Armed Services

On Tuesday, September 19, the House Armed Services Committee will hold a full committee hearing called “Defense Cooperation with Taiwan.”

On Wednesday, September 20, the Subcommittee on Cyber, Information Technologies, and Innovation will hold a hearing called "Industry Perspectives on Defense Innovation and Deterrence."

On Wednesday, September 20, the Subcommittee on Military Personnel will hold a hearing called "Meritocracy in the Military Services: Accession, Promotion, and Command Selection."
 
Education and Workforce

On Tuesday, September 19, the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education will hold a hearing called "Academic Freedom Under Attack: Loosening the CCP's Grip on America's Classrooms."

On Wednesday, September 20, the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development will hold a hearing called "Strengthening WIOA: Improving Outcomes for Jobseekers, Employers, and Taxpayers."
 
Energy and Commerce

On Tuesday, September 19, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a legislative hearing called "Examining Policies to Improve Seniors’ Access to Innovative Drugs, Medical Devices, and Technology."

On Tuesday, September 19, the Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials will hold a hearing called "Protecting American Manufacturing: Examining EPA’s Proposed PM2.5 Rule."

On Tuesday, September 19, the Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a full committee hearing called "Member Day Hearing."

On Wednesday, September 20, the Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security will hold a legislative hearing called "American Hydropower: Unleashing Reliable, Renewable, Clean Power Across the U.S."

On Wednesday, September 20, the Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce will hold a hearing called "Mapping America’s Supply Chains: Solutions to Unleash Innovation, Boost Economic Resilience, and Beat China."

On Friday, September 22, the Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials will hold a field hearing in East Palestine, Ohio, called "Life After the Train Derailment: Ensuring Transparency and Accountability for the People of East Palestine."

On Tuesday, September 19, the Subcommittee on Capital Markets will hold a hearing called "Oversight of the SEC’s Division of Investment Management."

On Tuesday, September 19, the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy will hold a hearing called "A Holistic Review of Regulators: Regulatory Overreach and Economic Consequences."

On Wednesday, September 20, the Committee on Homeland Security will hold a full committee hearing entitled “The Financial Costs of Mayorkas’ Open Border.”

House Administration

On Tuesday, September 19, the Subcommittee on Oversight will hold a hearing titled “Oversight of United States Capitol Security: Assessing Security Failures on January 6, 2021.”

On Wednesday, September 20, the Committee on House Administration will hold a full committee hearing titled “Oversight of the Federal Election Commission.”

House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence

On Tuesday, September 19, the Subcommittee on the Central Intelligence Agency will hold a closed hearing titled “CIA Investigation Update.”

Judiciary

On Tuesday, September 19, the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government will hold a hearing called "Examining Proposed Constitutional Amendments."

On Wednesday, September 20, the Judiciary Committee will hold a full committee hearing called "Oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice."

Natural Resources
