Committee Cliff Notes: Weekly Preview – Week of November 27, 2023

Here’s what to watch for from House Republican committees during the week:

Budget

On Wednesday, November 29, the Budget Committee will hold a full committee legislative hearing called "Examining the Need for a Fiscal Commission Reviewing H.R. 710, H.R. 5779, and S. 3262."
 
Education and Workforce

On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections will hold a hearing called "Bad for Business: DOL's Proposed Overtime Rule."

On Thursday, November 30, the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions will hold a hearing called "Safeguarding Workers' Rights and Liberties."

On Friday, December 1, the Committee on Education and the Workforce will hold a full committee hearing called "Member Day."
 
Energy and Commerce

On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials will hold a hearing called "America Leads the Way: Our History as the Global Leader Reducing Emissions."

On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing called "Understanding How AI is Changing Health Care."

On Thursday, November 30, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing called "Unmasking Challenges CDC Faces in Rebuilding Public Trust Amid Respiratory Illness Season."

On Thursday, November 30, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold a hearing called "Oversight of President Biden’s Broadband Takeover."
 
Financial Services

On Wednesday, November 29, the Financial Services Committee will hold a full committee hearing called "The Semi-Annual Report of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection."
 
Foreign Affairs

On Wednesday, November 29, the Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold a full committee markup on the following legislation: 
  • H.R. 6349, To prohibit or require notification with respect to certain activities of United States persons involving countries or concern, and for other purposes (McCaul)
  • H.R. 533, the Promoting a Resolution to the Tibet-China Conflict Act (McGovern)
  • H.R. 2766, the Uyghur Policy Act of 2023 (Kim)
  • H.R. 5375, the Strengthening the Quad Act (Meeks)
  • H.R. 1103, the Hong Kong Economic 5 and Trade Office (HKETO) Certification Act (Smith)

On Thursday, November 30, the Subcommittee on Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations will hold a hearing called "Part 2 - The Martyrdom of Bishop Alvarez: Nicaragua’s Prisoner of Conscience."

On Thursday, November 30, the Subcommittee on Africa will hold a hearing called "Ethiopia: Promise or Perils, The State of U.S. Policy."

On Thursday, November 30, the Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold a full committee hearing called "The U.S. Border Crisis and the American Solution to an International Problem."

On Tuesday, November 28, the Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology will hold a field hearing entitled “Emergency Preparedness: Examining Federal, State, and Local Coordination in Coastal Communities.”

On Wednesday, November 29, the Committee on Homeland Security full committee hearing entitled “The High North: How US Arctic Strategy Impacts Homeland Security.”

Judiciary
 
On Thursday, November 30, the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government will hold a hearing called “Hearing on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.”

Natural Resources

On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will hold a legislative hearing on the following bill:
  • H.R. 6285, the Alaska’s Right to Produce Act of 2023 (Stauber)
On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife and Fisheries and the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will hold a joint oversight hearing titled “Examining the Biden Administration’s Offshore Wind Development Policy.”

On Thursday, November 30, the Subcommittee on Federal Lands will hold a legislative hearing on the following bill:
  • H.R. ___, the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences Act or the EXPLORE Act (Westerman)

On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Government Innovation will hold a hearing called "Safeguarding the Federal Software Supply Chain."

On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce will hold a hearing called "Oversight of Federal Agencies’ Post-Pandemic Telework Policies: Part II."

On Thursday, November 30, the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs will hold a hearing called “Digging Deeper: Ensuring Safety and Security in the Critical Mineral Supply Chain.”

Rules

On Tuesday, November 28, the Committee on Rules will meet to discuss the following legislation:

On Thursday, November 30, the Select Committee on Chinese Communist Party will hold a hearing called “Discourse Power: The CCP's Strategy to Shape the Global Information Space”

On Thursday, November 30, the Committee on Small Business will hold a full committee hearing called “Member Day.”

Transportation and Infrastructure

On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials will hold a hearing called "Getting on the Right Track: Navigating the Future of Intercity Passenger Rail in America.”

On Thursday, November 30, the Subcommittee on Aviation will hold a hearing called "Turbulence Ahead: Consequences of Delaying a Long-Term FAA Bill.”

Veterans Affairs

On Wednesday, November 29, the Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs will hold a markup on pending legislation.
