Committee Cliff Notes: Committee Preview – Week of June 3, 2024

Here’s what to watch for from House Republican committees during the week:

Appropriations

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Homeland Security will hold a markup of the Fiscal Year 2025 Homeland Security Bill.

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs will hold a markup of the Fiscal Year 2025 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Bill.

On Wednesday, June 5, the Subcommittee on Defense will hold a markup of the Fiscal Year 2025 Defense Bill.

On Wednesday, June 5, the Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government will hold a markup of the Fiscal Year 2025 Financial Services and General Government Bill.

Education and the Workforce

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education will hold a hearing called "The Consequences of Biden's Border Chaos for K-12 Schools." 
 
Energy and Commerce

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security will hold a hearing called "Powering AI: Examining America’s Energy and Technology Future."

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing called "Oversight of 340B Drug Pricing Program."
 
Financial Services

On Wednesday, June 5, the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion will hold a hearing called "Next Generation Infrastructure: How Tokenization of Real-World Assets Will Facilitate Efficient Markets."
 
Foreign Affairs

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Oversight & Accountability will hold a hearing called "Money is Policy: Assessing Shortcomings in the State Department’s Foreign Assistance Grants Process."

Homeland Security
 
On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Emergency Management and Technology will hold a hearing entitled, “Stakeholder Perspectives on OSHA’s Proposed Rule to Update the Fire Brigades Standard.”

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security will hold a hearing entitled, “Combating the Gray Zone: Examining Chinese Threats to the Maritime Domain.”

House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
 
On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on the National Intelligence Enterprise will hold a closed markup of the FY 2025 Intelligence Authorization Act.

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Defense Intelligence and Overhead Architecture will hold a closed markup of the FY 2025 Intelligence Authorization Act.

On Wednesday, June 5, the Subcommittee on the National Security Agency and Cyber will hold a closed markup of the FY 2025 Intelligence Authorization Act.

On Wednesday, June 5, the Subcommittee on the Central Intelligence Agency will hold a closed markup of the FY 2025 Intelligence Authorization Act.

Judiciary

On Tuesday, June 4, the Judiciary Committee will hold a full committee hearing called "Oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice."

Natural Resources

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Federal Lands will hold an oversight hearing titled “Examining the President’s FY 2025 Budget Request for the U.S. Forest Service.”

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources will hold a legislative hearing on the following bills: 
  • H.R. 6395, the Recognizing the Importance of Critical Minerals in Healthcare Act of 2023 (Curtis)
  • H.R. 8446, To amend the Energy Act of 2020 to include critical materials in the definition of critical mineral, and for other purposes (Ciscomani)
  • H.R. 8450, the Phosphate and Potash Protection Act of 2024 (Cammack)
On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold an oversight hearing titled “Biden’s Border Crisis: Examining Efforts to Combat International Criminal Cartels & Stop Illegal Drug Trafficking Targeting Indian Country.”

Oversight and Accountability

On Monday, June 3, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic will hold a hearing called "A Hearing with Dr. Anthony Fauci."

On Wednesday, June 5, the Committee on Oversight and Accountability will hold a full committee hearing called "Oversight of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency."

Rules

On Monday, June 3, the Committee on Rules will meet on the following measures:
  • H.R. 8580, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025 (Carter)
  • H.R. 8282, To impose sanctions with respect to the International Criminal Court engaged in any effort to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any protected person of the United States and its allies (Roy)


Science, Space, and Technology

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Environment will hold a hearing called "An Overview of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Budget Proposal for Fiscal Year 2025."

Small Business

On Tuesday, June 4, the Committee on Small Business will hold a full committee hearing called "Weaponizing Federal Resources: Exposing the SBA’s Voter Registration Efforts."

Veterans Affairs

On Tuesday, June 4, the Committee on Veterans' Affairs will hold a full committee oversight hearing titled “Bonus Blunder: Examining VA’s Improper Decision to Award Senior Executives Millions in Incentives.” 

Ways and Means

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Social Security will hold a hearing titled “The Social Security Trust Funds in 2024 and Beyond.”

On Tuesday, June 4, the Subcommittee on Work & Welfare will hold a hearing titled “Reforming Unemployment Insurance to Support American Workers and Businesses.”
