Scalise Celebrates Anniversary of Dobbs Decision
Washington,
June 24, 2024
Today, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement marking the second anniversary of the Supreme Court's Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision:
“Today, we celebrate the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization. In overturning Roe vs. Wade, the Court corrected a historic injustice and returned the power to the People and their elected representatives to protect the sanctity of life. “While we celebrate the pro-life protections that have taken effect because of Dobbs, Congressional Democrats are pushing barbaric legislation that would force unlimited abortion funded by taxpayers and force every state to allow abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy, including painful late-term abortions. House Republicans will continue to be a firewall to prevent the Democrats’ radical abortion agenda from ever becoming law. “House Republicans remain committed to defending life and ending the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortions, as well as supporting pregnant mothers. Earlier this year we passed H.R. 6918, the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act, to block the Biden administration from stripping away funding for pregnancy centers, and H.R. 6914, the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act, which would ensure pregnant students on campus are informed of life-affirming resources. At the beginning of this Congress, we also passed H.R. 26, the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Act, requiring medical care for children that survive abortion attempts, as well as H.Con.Res. 3, condemning the attacks on pro-life facilities, groups, and churches. “We will not stop fighting until each and every unborn child is protected. We will continue to defend the value of every human life and ensure pregnant mothers have the care and support they need and deserve.” |
