Scalise Demands Accountability Within Secret Service

  • 08.01.24 - ICYMI - Scalise Ingraham
Tonight, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle alongside Former Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) to discuss the failures of the Secret Service under the Biden-Harris administration. Leader Scalise highlighted the many Secret Service oversights that led to President Trump’s assassination attempt and called for transparency for the American people. Additionally, Leader Scalise emphasized the need for the USSS to fire those who have lost sight of their main mission  protecting the president of the United States.

On the House's investigation into the USSS' failures:

“Laura, very, very alarming and almost deadly, it was deadly for Corey [Comperatore]. It should not have happened. And this is why we're doing our own independent investigation because, you know, you go back to the day of the shooting, for about a week we were lied to, the whole country was by the Secret Service saying no, President Trump's team was not denied additional protection. Turns out yes, in fact, they were denied and they later admitted to that lie. They talked about the slope of the roof being too steep – that turned out not to be true as well.

“I don't know why they’re misleading the American people but we’re fed up with it. We're going to get real answers. These technology breakdowns are inexcusable. This is 2024, this isn't 2055. There’s no excuse for those kind of breakdowns. You know, turning down drone technology when a 20-year-old kid had the drone that he was able to use to go and surveil this, this Butler area. I mean, there's no reason for any of this. We're going to get to the bottom of it, but there's got to be more accountability. It should have never happened. And it can never happen again.”

On the Secret Service straying from their core mission to protect the president:

“Well, they’re not focused on their core mission, Laura. They lost focus on their core mission. And that's to protect the president of the United States, former presidents of the United States, the vice president as well. They forgot about that mission. They started getting into all these other things, quotas, diversity – get back to the core mission. Clean up the culture, and like Jason [Chaffetz] said, you got to clean house. When you've got a dirty culture, you got to clean the whole thing up. We're going to get the report before the end of this year. This will not be something that drags out because we need answers quickly. We need to change the culture quickly.”

On Acting USSS Director Ronald Rowe allegedly directing cuts to President Trump’s Counter Surveillance Division in Butler, PA:

“It's a serious charge, and he's yet to answer for it. He's going to give us an answer, and we've got to see what that answer is. But at the same time, there's deeper questions that still – I don't know if anybody over there is going to be able to clean it up at the top, you're going to have to just clear out a lot of those people that lost focus of the main mission and get back to the core of what these people should do. Incompetence seems to be the only thing they're capable of in the Biden-Harris administration. No comms – they couldn’t talk to someone 150 feet away.”
