The Republican Recap: Week of June 30, 2025
Washington,
July 3, 2025
Here’s a recap of what Republicans achieved on the House Floor this week:
Passing One Big, Beautiful Bill to Advance President Trump’s Agenda and Deliver for Americans ✅ President Trump and House Republicans campaigned on an America First agenda that invests in America, prevents the largest tax hike in our history, secures our border, unleashes American energy, supports small businesses and families, and cuts wasteful Washington spending. With the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), Republicans across committees and branches of government united to fulfill those promises. The legislation delivers the largest tax cut for middle and working class Americans in history, and follows through on key promises including no tax on tips and no tax on overtime. It also increases and cements the Child Tax Credit, supporting over 40 million families. 88 percent of all seniors who receive Social Security will not pay any tax on their benefits, implementing the largest tax break in history for our seniors. These provisions allow Americans to save more of the money they earned. Meanwhile, OBBBA secures historic savings of over $1 trillion, incentivizes American manufacturing and investment, doubles small business expensing, and reduces trade barriers to allow American farmers to compete on a global scale. The historic pro-growth policies in OBBBA will create more jobs and a robust economy while reducing the deficit over the next 10 years. To permanently secure our border, the bill carries out the President’s mass deportation agenda; hires 10,000 new ICE agents, 5,000 new Customs officers, and 3,000 new Border Patrol agents; and finishes the border wall. OBBBA also ensures our military has the necessary resources to remain a lethal fighting force and funds the Golden Dome missile defense system to protect America from threats. Additionally, the legislation unleashes domestic energy production, lowers energy costs, supports our Strategic Petroleum Reserve, rescinds billions funding the Green New Scam, promotes regulatory clarity, and increases permitting for domestic projects, shoring up our energy and national security. The American people deserve more – House Republicans made good on our promises and passed one of the most consequential pieces of legislation in our history. H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, sponsored by Chairman Jodey Arrington, incorporates President Trump’s America First agenda into one big, beautiful bill that includes legislation to deliver for Americans by cutting wasteful government spending, reducing burdensome regulations, providing tax cuts that support families and small businesses, supporting domestic energy production and security, and securing the border. “The One Big Beautiful Bill is a game-changer for America. This historic legislation delivers the largest tax cut in American history, providing direct relief to working families and boosting take-home pay. It slashes wasteful Washington spending, eliminates red tape, and makes major investments in border security, energy independence, and national defense. It is the codification of President Trump’s campaign promises,” said Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson. “The One Big Beautiful Bill is a victory for rural America, making the largest investment in agriculture in decades, restoring integrity to SNAP, and saving millions of family farms from the death tax. This bill gives President Trump the tools he needs to keep America safe, strong, and free.” Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers said, “The One Big, Beautiful Bill makes a historic investment of $150 billion to restore America’s military capabilities and strengthen our national defense. Our military’s resources have declined over the years, and defense spending as a percentage of GDP has dropped to the lowest levels since before WWII. Our defense industrial base has weakened, and American deterrence is failing. Without a generational investment, we will lose the ability to defeat our adversaries. The One Big, Beautiful Bill gets us back on track, modernizing our military and reinforcing our national security. President Trump has a visionary strategy of Peace through Strength, and this legislation is how we execute that agenda and build a ready, capable, and lethal fighting force.” “The One Big Beautiful Bill is headed to President Trump’s desk—and along with it the tools and resources to make his America First vision a reality in the lives of the American people. This is the most comprehensive and consequential set of conservative reforms in modern history. This Big Beautiful Bill delivers the greatest single investment in border security and national defense; the largest tax cuts for families and small businesses; the most significant commitment to unlocking America’s energy resources; and the largest reduction in spending in the history of the United States—by two-fold,” said Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington. “There’s more work ahead, but today is a big win for the American people and the future of the greatest nation in human history.” “In passing the One Big, Beautiful Bill, the House once again took decisive action to bring down costs for Americans. This bill puts forward the first set of significant conservative reforms to the higher education landscape in two decades. And thanks to the Committee and House Republicans’ initiative and hard work the One Big, Beautiful Bill will help maintain America’s world-class higher education system,” said Education & Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg. “Since January, the Trump administration’s pro-growth policies have created opportunities for our workers and job creators to succeed in a booming economy, including reforms to our student loan system to help drive down out-of-control college costs. I am proud to join my colleagues in supporting the One Big, Beautiful Bill and sending it to President Trump’s desk as a part of our ongoing work to lower costs for Americans and help students, families, and taxpayers thrive.” “The passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is a victory for the millions of American families who will receive a historic tax cut,” said Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie. “As part of this legislation the Committee on Energy and Commerce worked to secure major victories targeting waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending. The bill strengthens Medicaid for those who need it most, ensures American energy dominance, and supports the rapid innovation of American industry. Thank you to President Trump and all our Committee members who worked tirelessly on this legislation.” “The American people voted for fiscal responsibility and change. Passage of President Trump’s ‘One, Big, Beautiful Bill’ follows through on that directive and begins the process of getting our fiscal house in order. I am proud of the House Financial Services Committee's contributions to the meaningful spending reductions in this bill,” said Financial Services Committee Chairman French Hill. “House Republicans made history today by passing the ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill Act,’ which will secure our nation’s borders and our communities for years to come,” said Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green. “By completing the border barrier system, reinvigorating and rebuilding the CBP workforce, and investing in cutting-edge border security technology, this bill will make sure that a border crisis like the one created under the Biden-Harris administration never happens again. These resources, in lockstep with President Trump’s proven agenda, send a clear message to would-be illegal border crossers, cartels, and transnational gangs—America’s borders will no longer be exploited. I look forward to President Trump signing this legislation into law to continue this new era of border security for the American people.” “President Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ provides the largest middle-class tax cut in history, eliminates taxes on tips, secures the border, deports criminal illegal aliens, empowers families, expands school choice, and includes commonsense work requirements for able-bodied adults. It’s good for taxpayers, good for the economy, and good for America,” said Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan. “Today, the House passed historic legislation that unleashes American energy and unlocks the full potential of our abundant natural resources. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act invests in America's future through responsible natural resource development, ensuring access to affordable and reliable American energy, creating jobs and driving economic growth across the country. The House Committee on Natural Resources is proud to have played a role in crafting this legislation and I look forward to seeing President Trump sign it into law,” said Natural Resources Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman. Oversight & Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer said, “The People’s House delivered on President Trump’s America First vision today by passing the One Big Beautiful Bill, achieving real results that put more money directly into the pockets of hardworking Americans and small businesses across the country. This historic legislation not only cuts taxes but also fortifies our national security by securing the border and removing dangerous criminal illegal aliens, restores American energy dominance, and cracks down on rampant waste, fraud, and abuse in Washington. This bill is now heading to the President’s desk—a victory for the America First agenda and a fulfillment of our promise to the American people.” “Today, House Republicans voted to send the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to President Trump’s desk and advance crucial elements of his America First Agenda. The final bill includes provisions from the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to provide historic investments in the United States Coast Guard to strengthen our national and border security, as well as funding to begin modernizing the nation’s outdated air traffic control system and enhance the hiring of air traffic controllers. I’m proud of the T&I Committee’s contributions to this bill and look forward to the President signing it into law,” said Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves. “For two years, the Ways and Means Committee has been preparing for this moment, and thanks to President Trump’s overwhelming victory in November, a historic, pro-growth, pro-America tax bill that delivers on the president’s promises to American workers and families will soon become law. Permanency for the successful provisions of the 2017 Trump tax cuts, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime pay, no tax on car loan interest, and tax relief for seniors, along with tax incentives that reward businesses who manufacture more in the U.S. and hire more American workers will soon usher in the Golden Age of America,” said Ways & Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith. “This legislation will not only be transformational for the American economy, ensuring that it works for working class Americans, not against them, but it also provides the largest one-time investment in border security in American history. It takes necessary steps to rein in out-of-control spending by making the largest cut to mandatory spending in American history. This bill is nothing short of the greatest piece of Republican legislation in a generation, and I look forward to President Trump signing this bill into law.” What Members Said: “We hear a lot from the other side, Mr. Speaker, about billionaires, tax cuts for billionaires. You go look at this bill [...] there are some new tax cuts in this bill, but not for billionaires. [...] There are new tax cuts for the waiter and waitress who's working maybe two, three shifts at a restaurant, at a diner, barely getting by. [...] The other tax cut? Sorry, it's not a billionaire again: it's that shift worker working overtime. [...] If you work overtime, you're not going to pay taxes on that overtime. [...] Everybody who votes no is going to be asked a question by that waitress making $32,000 a year saying, ‘Why do you want me to pay more money in my tips so that $10 billion of fraud goes out in the SNAP program?’ Because you voted against cleaning it up and you voted against no tax on tips. That's the no vote,” said Majority Leader Steve Scalise.
“The hard working families of America are hungry, hungry for this kind of change. Take power away from Washington, give it back to the people, and watch what happens – great things. Great things are ahead for this country, greatest country in the history of the world. We are finally going to give and restore that great American dream and that hope for those families who have been waiting way too long. That hope is coming. We're going to pass this bill. President Trump's going to sign it. It's going to be a great Fourth of July.” “Mr. Speaker, this One Big, Beautiful Bill delivers the American people the promises of President Trump's America First agenda and prevents the largest single tax hike on the middle class in history. A no vote on this bill is a vote for sabotaging the United States energy dominance, blocking critical investments to revolutionize our military to address 21st Century threats. It eliminates over $700 billion in wasteful Medicaid spending for illegal aliens and people who can work or refuse to work, instead of America's most vulnerable. I urge all my colleagues to vote yes on this historic piece of legislation,” said Rep. John McGuire. “After listening to the previous few hours, it should surprise no one that the party of open borders, the party of illegal aliens, and now the party of state-run grocery stores, hates this bill. Because this bill secures America's borders. It protects America's farmers and America's businesses. It protects us from tremendous amounts of waste, fraud, and abuse, and it stops the largest tax hike in American history. This bill is a win for the American people,” said Rep. Brad Knott.
“Mr. Speaker, campaign promises made, and soon to be, campaign promises kept. I spent my entire career in the private sector. I know what those Trump tax policies did for me, for my business, my community, my state, and my country,” said Rep. Mike Collins. “And now, now with this bill, we're going to bring inflation under control with energy dominance. We're going to make sure that small businesses have certainty with our tax policies out there. And also, Mr. Speaker, we're going to bring these federal agencies under control by deregulation. You do that, and you will unleash the American entrepreneurial spirit out there. This is a big day for Main Street. Wall Street has had their time.” The White House touted the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill as a victory, as the bill heads to President Trump's desk.
