The Leader's Floor Lookout: Wednesday, September 2, 2026

Here’s what to watch for on the House Floor today:

Preserving the Legitimacy of the Supreme Court

Our Founding Fathers created a system to protect Americans from concentrated power by establishing three coequal branches of government: legislative, executive, and judicial. As the highest court, the Supreme Court serves as a critical check on the other branches of government and safeguards the rights and freedoms of every American.

But today, this system is under attack. Radical left Democrats and the DSA want to politicize and restructure the Supreme Court, effectively destroying the constitutional safeguards our Founders put in place.

For years, Democrats have called for packing the Supreme Court with more left-wing judges and now the DSA is going even further by calling to abolish the Supreme Court and replace it with a judicial system subordinate to Congress.

We cannot allow radical Democrats to dismantle the foundation upon which our government was founded. A Supreme Court that is not equal to the legislative and executive branches or is capriciously altered with left-wing political judges will end the court’s independence, threaten the freedoms of Americans, and jeopardize our system of checks and balances. That is why today House Republicans are bringing forward a resolution to propose a Constitutional amendment affirming that the Supreme Court consists of nine justices, preserving the court’s legitimacy and the rights of our citizens.

Rep. Andy Biggs' resolution, H.J. Res. 1, proposes a Constitutional amendment that would require the Supreme Court of the United States to be composed of nine justices.

House Republicans are standing up to defend our Constitution and protect the freedoms of the American people.

Strengthening America's Critical Mineral Supply Chain

Critical minerals are the backbone of modern defense, technology, clean energy, AI, and more, making them indispensable to everyday life. With global demand for critical minerals surging, securing these resources is essential for maintaining America’s competitive edge and global leadership.

Despite having abundant natural resources right here in America, excessive permitting burdens and red tape under prior administrations obstructed development of America’s natural resources, hindering U.S. mining projects and limiting access to these crucial domestic resources. These misguided policies leave us reliant on foreign adversaries like Communist China for our critical mineral needs, threatening America’s security and competitive edge in the 21st century. That is why today House Republicans will bring to the floor the Protecting Domestic Mining Act to support mining projects and jobs by expanding the eligibility for fast-tracked mining permits.

Rep. Jefferson Shreve’s bill, H.R. 1501, the Protecting Domestic Mining Act, bolsters the American critical mineral supply chain by cutting permitting delays, thus fast-tracking certain critical mineral projects and reducing reliance on foreign adversaries.

House Republicans are working to strengthen America’s critical mineral supply chain.
