Scalise Sounds the Alarm on Dangerous Political Weaponization of FBI

Today, House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) joined Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends to discuss the FBI’s unprecedented raid on Mar-a-Lago. Whip Scalise voiced his concerns about Democrats politicizing the federal government to go after President Trump and their political enemies.Additionally, Whip Scalise warned that President Biden and Speaker Pelosi's big government socialist spending spree would cause inflation to skyrocket, damage the U.S. economy, reverse American energy independence, and hurt middle class families. Whip Scalise also emphasized that Democrats' tax-and-spending spree would hire 87,000 IRS agents to snoop on the bank accounts of lower and middle-income families.

On President Biden claiming there was “zero percent inflation” in the month of July:“It shows you how out of touch President Biden and Speaker Pelosi are with the American people. I mean, families are still feeling a heavy pinch. When they go to the grocery store, when they go to the gas station, they're paying, in many cases, thousands of dollars more per year for things that they were buying before because of Biden's policies, and they keep doubling down.“I mean, they're going to bring us back to Congress tomorrow to try to vote on a $700 billion new tax-and-spending package that'll add even more to inflation, that'll add even more to gas prices. They're completely out of touch with the American people. And frankly, it seems they don't care [about] the struggles families are having right now.”On the FBI's unprecedented raid on Mar-a-Lago: “Well, the first thing we want to do is ensure that [Department of Justice] records are preserved because, you know, the silence is deafening from [the Department of Justice]. The fact that they've taken this unprecedented step – weaponizing federal agencies to go after political opponents – and then not even explain it to the American people what they were doing, not even letting the attorneys be there for President Trump, by all accounts, when they were in his house, these are all very alarming and concerning things. “And we're going to have serious questions that we want answered, and if we get the majority back, these are the kinds of questions we’re going to be asking to some of these officials. But, we're telling them right now, 'You need to save these documents. You need to send us these documents. Don't go destroy documents because we're going to have real questions that you're going to have to answer.' And this day is coming. I mean, you can't do something like this in a country like the United States of America. People have constitutional protections, and if they want to trample over the Constitution, we're going to be holding them accountable.”On the need to get answers from the FBI and the Department of Justice:“Frankly, we're very strong supporters of law enforcement. And it concerns everybody if you see some agents go rogue and if you see an agency that doesn't have the right checks and balances at the top. This is coming from the top, this isn't the [rank-and-file agents]."“We want to find that out, and that's why we're asking these questions. Because, you know, there were reports yesterday that [Attorney General] Merrick Garland said he didn't even know about this raid. I don't know if anybody believes that. But he should be asked under oath if he knew about the raid prior to it happening. He hasn't answered that question. Why hasn't he held a press conference? Why won't President Biden talk about this to the press? That is deafening right now, that silence.“That's right, they just took [Congressman Scott Perry's] phone. These are all things that are concerning. And oh, by the way, then they want to add 87,000 more IRS agents at this same time that they're weaponizing other agencies.”On the FBI and the Department of Justice refusing to answer questions about the raid on Mar-a-Lago:“[House Republicans] are asking questions right now that no one's answering. We're not hearing the FBI answer any of these questions, we're not hearing [from the Department of] Justice, and we're not hearing [from] the White House. All you're seeing is deflection. They get on a plane and fly away as if it's some party to celebrate.“This is [an] unprecedented action that's been taken against a former president. And look, you know, they have made it clear they don't like Donald Trump from the day he ran for President. This isn't how you settle it. You settle it at the ballot box. You don't use federal agencies to go after people that you disagree with. And that's what's alarming. Again, I think a lot of people in America want these questions answered, and right now, the silence is deafening that you're hearing.” On Democrats' Inflation, Recession, and IRS Army Act:“I think people need to get engaged right now and pick up the phone and call their Members of Congress. If you've got a Member of Congress that that is indicating they might vote for it that hasn't said they're against it. “Look, I whipped against this bill to make sure we knew where all Republicans are, and I think you're going to see zero Republicans vote for it. But frankly, there ought to be at least four Democrats that vote against it. But right now, not one has said they will. “So, if you're represented by a Democrat in Congress, he's about to vote for more than doubling the size of the IRS to go after you. This isn't to go after rich people. It's to go after lower and middle-income people. The numbers back it up from what they're sending out. “They're going to spend hundreds of billions in new taxes, including new taxes on energy. If you don't think you're paying enough for gas today, wait till they add billions more new taxes on energy. So, when you try to cool your home in the summer, or when you try to fill up your car, it's going to cost even more. Does anybody want that? “And by the way, anyone who thinks that's going to lower the deficit, that's the biggest misnomer. It's going to increase inflation and increase the deficit because they play budget gimmicks by expanding Obamacare and not accounting for it. They account for three years of spending in Obamacare when they do permanent changes to Obamacare that will actually add hundreds of billions to the deficit over time. They're not telling anybody that.”On Democrats prioritizing their tax-and-spending spree over police funding: “We're going to be working to reverse all of this, but recognize, you know, we need to get the Senate as well. [President] Biden is still in the White House, but we're going to be putting moving bills out of the House that take this money away.“Look at what they're doing with the IRS agents. Again, 87,000 new IRS agents. You can't fill up most football stadiums in America with that many people. They're defunding police in most cities, and yet they're going to more than double the size of the IRS?“And oh, by the way, we were supposed to have bills to actually help police this week. They pulled those bills. This is the second time they've pulled bills to help police because their main wing of their Democrat Party in Washington wants to defund the police, and in fact, [they're] pushing right now to defund the police even more, and that's why they pulled the pro-police bills. “It shows you where their priorities are. They're going after lower and middle-income people. [They're] raising taxes and defunding the police.”
